I was one of those children who was always doodling and painting in a tablet on the dining room table. There still is a hazy blotch of India ink on the lace table cloth as a reminder of a day of drawing with pen and ink. Later I went on to teach elementary school age children and work with teachers for thirty five years. I always integrated the arts (painting, pastels, clay, music, drama, collage, stitchery, etc.) into the academic program when ever appropriate and possible.
Oil on canvas can provide a rich, vibrant world or an ethereal, tranquil mood. I have spent recent years painting in a style usually described as 'California Impressionism' and have created paintings both in studio and out of doors (Plein Air) that suggest the countryside in and around Santa Clarita, Eaton Canyon, Descanso Gardens, Huntington Gardens, Pine Mountain, the California coast, northern California, and the desert. I have always found the darks, lights, and colors in nature and especially trees very compelling and entrancing. Color theory, composition, tension and harmony, shapes, line, positive and negative areas, and texture all play a role in the process of planning and executing my work.

I have studied numerous art forms over the years in college, various art classes , and in workshops. I have also traveled across the United States and to Mexico, Japan, Guam, Hong Kong, and Peru - with elements and flavors of each working their way into my method of interpreting my environment and into my creative processes.
