General Information: The Art Classic Fine Art Competition exhibits the outstanding work of the SCAA members. This is a professionally judged event in all mediums with ribbons awarded in all categories. An Art Gala reception will be held to celebrate our members including the awards presentation.
 
The SCAA Art Classic is our major yearly fundraiser that supports the SCAA scholarship program and local art enrichment programs.   Commissioned by Solar Optimum through the LA County Department of Arts and Culture Public Art in Private Development program.

We hope that you will consider donations as the Art Classic and the Silent Auction are a big  part of our yearly fundraiser for our scholarship program and other SCAA events. 

 Please complete the additional Silent Auction form to add your donation. Small pieces of art, gift baskets, collectables, other donations sell well.
 
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. You must fill out all information below, then press SUBMIT (Step 1). After submission you can make your payment on the website. (Step 2)  If you fill out the information and do not press submit in Step 1 and move directly to the payment in Step 2, ALL of  your information (from Step 1) will NOT BE SAVED. And there will be no record of you entering the Art Classic.

Entry Requirements
  • SCAA members only. Membership applications are available at: http://www.santaclaritaartists.org
  • Artwork may not have been entered in a previous Art Classic
  • Artwork must be the original creation of the artist and not derived from another person’s image or artwork (Please read and sign Waiver Form). 
  • No incorporation of any clipart or any stock imagery into an artwork.
  • Artwork should have been created in the past three years.
  • No artwork prepared in a classroom or workshop may be entered.
  • Artists may enter (2) artworks not to exceed 27" x 27" (including frame) or (1) artwork larger than 27" x 27" (including the frame) but no larger than 48" x 48" (including the frame). No size limit on sculptures.  Artists may enter one sculpture and one small hanging piece (27" x 27") of art or 2 sculptures.
  • Fees are: This applies to both paintings and sculpture.  
    • $35 for (1) artwork 27" x 27" or smaller.
    • $45 for (2) artworks, each 27" x 27" or smaller, or 3D art.
    • $45 for one (1) artwork larger than 27" x 27" up to 48" x 48"
  • 2D work must be wired and ready to hang. Absolutely no saw tooth hangers. Canvas edges must be painted if no frame is used. NO WET PAINTINGS!
  • Sculptors are to supply their own pedestals
  • All artworks must be for sale.
 
Categories:  
The categories entered by the artist on the Entry Form are subject to change made by the Art Classic Committee. The Committee will determine the correct category for each piece. Changes made by the Art Classic Committee are final.


 Art Classic Categories Clarifications 
  1. Oil - 100% Oil 
  2. Acrylic- 100% Acrylic .  For example if pen and ink, pastel are used within the work it becomes MIXED MEDIA.
  3. Watercolor- 100% Watercolor. For example if pen and ink, colored pencil., are used within the work it becomes MIXED MEDIA.
  4. Dry Media-Pastel, Colored Pencil, Charcoal, Scratchboard. 
  5. Photography- A camera or a cellphone camera is used to create the work.
  6. Sculpture- a 3-D piece of art, includes Assemblage and Relief Sculpture. Work can be placed on a pedestal or hanging on a panel. 
  7. 2-D Mixed Media/Collage- more than one media is used, includes but not limited to: Paint, Pencil, Paper. 
  8. 2-D Multiple Medias- Alcohol inks, Pen and Ink, Gouache, Digital Art from a computer or iPad, or any media that does not fit into the above categories.
  9. Masters- Accumulative points from attaining a 1st place, 2nd place, or Best of Show from previous Art Classics with a total of 10 points or more.

Canvas- Unframed canvas must be 1 ½” gallery wrapped with edges painted. Canvas.  Canvas is less than 1 ½ “must be framed. 
Masters Category is determined by the awards won and points earn in previous Art Classics. To become a Master artist, an accumulated score of 10 points must be obtained from the Art Classic Fine Arts Competition starting in 2009. Master points: Best of Show = 4 points, Gold = 3 points, Silver = 2 points. No points are given Merit or City Awards. If you qualify, please make sure you enter the Master category when filling out the form.
 
Awards: Best of Show and a Gold (1st) and Silver (2nd), and Merit Awards in each category as determined by number of entries and judges scores. More than one Merit Award may be given by the judges. There is also an Excellence in Art Award is given by the City of Santa Clarita.
 
Dates to Remember:

  • Deadline for Entry, September 8, Midnight
  • Delivery of Artwork to The Centre: September 26, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 5:00pm
  • Delivery of all Silent Auction items to The Centre: September 26, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 5:00pm
  • Gala Reception and Awards: Saturday, September 27, 2025 1:00- 5:00
  • Free Public Viewing: Sunday, September 28, 11 am. to 4:00pm (no early removal)
  • Pick up Art: Sunday, September 28- 4:00pm to 5:00pm
  •  SCAA meeting October 20 meeting 6:30- 8:30  All winners are requested to bring their winning art to the meeting to share with the membership.
