According to her Mother, Cheri's love for art began at the tender age of 3. Cheri had her own unique style early on and loved to create her own eclectic outfits, draping fabrics, hanging beads around her neck and accessorizing with anything else she could get her hands on. During her school years she continued to gravitate towards the creative arts and took many sewing, cooking and art classes.
She married her high school sweetheart and while she and her wonderful husband, Howard raised their two daughters. Cheri served on the Rosedell PTA for over 9 years. She was honored as the first recipient of the "Honorary Service Award" for the community. |
In 1994, Cheri continued her education by taking several watercolor art classes at COC taught by Mary Lou Carraher. There she fell in love with the medium and practiced painting at home. It was here at COC she met Patti Koscheski, who introduced her to the SCAA. Over the past 27 years she has served on the Board in various positions, Historian, Treasurer, Membership, Corresponding Secretary, Sunshine and 25 years as Art Classic Hospitality Chairperson.
Cheri's work reflects her love for flowers and gardening. It includes large impressionistic floral studies as well as smaller, but no less exuberant pieces. Her paintings have been in exhibits at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, the Valencia Library, Newhall Library, Canyon Theatre Guild, A Custom Furniture Company, several local floral shops, and City Hall. More than 250 original watercolor paintings are in private collections. She has also added hand-painted furniture and wall décor to her repertoire. Her hand-painted furniture is carried in several high-end designer shops, and she does custom designs for private clients. |
Cheri enjoys participating in local art festivals and art shows. Her watercolors have won many awards in the annual "Art Classic" competitions. Watercolors are her passion and she shared her skills in drawing and painting with children as an instructor in the Saugus Union School District Enrichment Program for 20 years. Cheri will tell you that she is, "excited about painting and I think that helped make it exciting and fun for the children."
