SCAA celebrates a unique solo exhibition by our own President Pro Tem, Gallery Chair, and Event Chair, Tobi Beck. Running from September 18 through November 1, 2026, at the Canyon Theatre Guild, this exclusive showing serves as a vibrant archive retrospective, featuring a diverse array of original abstract works spanning from 2014 to 2025 – all priced accessibly under $600 – a great opportunity to collect a piece of the foundational work that brought Tobi's work to where it is today. "Smudges of My Love & Guts" Tobi’s artistic journey began in 2014 – a practice that unexpectedly carried her through a profound cancer scare only one year later.
Gritty Textures & Hollywood Screens Originally from Boston, Tobi’s raw style is deeply rooted in her childhood in the South Boston projects. With intuition and spontaneity, she builds expressive visual layers using scrapers, palette knives, dirty water, and broken brushes to recreate the weather-worn urban textures of her youth. Her canvas marks serve as an expressive homage to stained bricks, ripped stickers on light poles, and dry gum on city mailboxes. While she has dedicated the past three years to volunteering as our SCAA Gallery Chair, her independent contemporary art career spans prestigious national and global stages. Tobi is a celebrated six-time selected exhibitor at The Other Art Fair Los Angeles, and her original works are held in private collections stretching from the United States to Denmark. Her compelling style has also caught the eye of Hollywood set designers; seven of Tobi’s original paintings were procured by NBC/Universal for the Peacock TV series Based on a True Story. The Archives Showcase @ CTG This month-long lobby installation offers a rare, intimate look at the various styles, experiments, and studio breakthroughs that helped build Tobi's current successful body of work. To clear out her studio vault and make original art accessible to local theatergoers, Tobi has priced everything in this collection significantly below her current retail rates—offering major 30x40 statement canvases for just $560 (normally retailing up to $2,200).
