What an absolutely unforgettable weekend! The Santa Clarita Valley’s longest-running fine art tradition officially closed its doors yesterday after welcoming hundreds of residents, collectors, and families to Cedar Hall at The Centre. From our vibrant gallery walls to the buzzing energy of our signature Silent Auction, the weekend was a breathtaking testament to the power of local visual culture. As President, standing before a packed house during Saturday's awards presentation was an emotional highlight of my year. Seeing our diverse artists, dedicated volunteers, and supporters unified in one space proved that art is not just thriving in our valley – it is the very heartbeat of our community. Gratitude to Our Stellar Volunteer Team An exhibition of this scale takes a monumental village to build and we knocked it out in only a record-breaking two months! SCAA is entirely volunteer-run, and our team of helpers worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this weekend a flawless success, under the direction of our Art Classic Committee & Leaders (Chair: Tobi Beck, Logistics: Howard Marcovitch, Advisor: Laurie Morgan, Administration: Karen Martinez, and Curation: Laura Ledesma). From heavy lifting during Friday's grueling setup and artwork intake to welcoming guests at the front doors all weekend, popping wine bottles, delicately placing tartlettes, presenting awards, masterfully curating the artwork, slinging auction bids, steaming curtains – and even packing up my car (LOL!), your dedication makes "Art Happen" across our valley. You are the absolute backbone of this association, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Thank You to Our Generous Culinary & Business Partners Our festive celebration was beautifully fueled by the outstanding generosity of our local business community. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our food, beverage, and hospitality donors and sponsors for keeping our guests delighted with incredible refreshments, appetizers, and desserts throughout the reception.
Additionally, a massive thank you goes out to every local business, sponsor, and individual patron who donated items to our Silent Auction. Thanks to your incredible generosity, our auction tables were full and will directly return back into our member programming and youth arts initiatives. Announcing the 2026 Art Classic Award WinnersOur esteemed independent awards judges, Adrienne Kinsella and Elizabeth Souza, faced an incredibly difficult task evaluating over one hundred exceptional, anonymous entries. SCAA Celebrates: Plein Air Coordinator Meressa Naftulin Wins Prestigious Founder’s Award at MOPO!9/20/2026 We are thrilled to announce that our exceptional Plein Air Coordinator, Meressa Naftulin, has been honored with The Founder's Award at this year's prestigious Mendocino Outdoor Paint Out (MOPO).
Our SCAA plein air group recently packed up their palettes and headed over the hill to escape the late-summer heat at Marina Park in Ventura! It was a spectacular morning of creative camaraderie, fresh ocean breezes, and coastal inspiration as our artists captured the beautiful sea terraces, harbor views, and rolling surf on canvas. We are so proud of our thriving outdoor painting community and love seeing the diverse ways our members bring the California landscape to life. Check out a few snapshots from the shoreline below!
Carmen Lamp is a pastel artist whose work is inspired by the beauty, movement, and emotion found in nature. Working primarily in soft pastel, she is known for herexpressive coastal scenes, ocean waves, shorelines, and landscapes that capture fleeting moments of light, color, and atmosphere.
SCAA celebrates a unique solo exhibition by our own President Pro Tem, Gallery Chair, and Event Chair, Tobi Beck. Running from September 18 through November 1, 2026, at the Canyon Theatre Guild, this exclusive showing serves as a vibrant archive retrospective, featuring a diverse array of original abstract works spanning from 2014 to 2025 – all priced accessibly under $600 – a great opportunity to collect a piece of the foundational work that brought Tobi's work to where it is today. "Smudges of My Love & Guts"
Tobi’s artistic journey began in 2014 – a practice that unexpectedly carried her through a profound cancer scare only one year later. We just completed an exceptional two-day intensive gouache workshop with acclaimed Los Angeles-based painter Danny Folkman. The event brought together 25 participants, including a dynamic mix of association members and guest artists. The enthusiasm for Danny's unique approach to landscape and plein air work was evident in the distances traveled, with attendees commuting from as far as San Diego, Orange County, and Alameda. Thank you to everyone who packed their setups and made the journey!
