SCAA Member Art Show
 Call to Artists

Vessels
March 6 -April 4, 2026

SHOW PROSPECTUS
SCAA Gallery invites you to explore the subject of vessels as useful objects; containing, holding, carrying, or presenting. A vase offering petals of sympathy. A tea cup giving rest to the wings of a bird. More complexly simple, a vessel can also steal attention as a showstopper or a conversation piece, holding a beauty and form all its own. As well, the body, containing secrets and wisdom, thoughts and spirit, as beings that transcend purpose and understanding. Through boxes, sculpture, gourds, boats, and other unique containers in all media, we lift up the world’s mighty vessels and welcome your creativity in sharing these vast concepts with gallery visitors!.
About Vessels: Work for this exhibit can expand all themes, subjects, scenes, and genres while keeping the vessel as a focal point throughout any narrative. Works that include the body as a vessel should take special note to convey the body as a vessel (in any intended context) to comply with the show theme and should not simply be a work of the body or human form on display. 2D and 3D Fine art mediums and artisan work, including aesthetically-led sculptural woodworking, pottery, and glass mediums are encouraged. No AI.

Important Dates
Exhibit Dates: March 6 - April 4, Closed Easter Sunday Reception: Saturday, March 7, 5-8 pm
Submission Deadline: Sunday, February  15 Notification: Tuesday, Feb 17

Eligibility
Open to current SCAA members 16 years and older. Non-members may join the association to become eligible. Exhibitors must be available and willing to host the required number of gallery shifts throughout the duration of the show. Returning exhibitors must be in good standing with the Gallery Committee, having shown to be a consistent and reliable volunteer and team member by following guidelines, fulfilling host requirements (finding one’s own coverage when unable to do so), and demonstrating a positive, helpful attitude; respecting fellow exhibitors, guests, and gallery committee members, as well as the gallery space. Failure to do so, including consistently arriving unprepared or with unsecured artwork, consistent absenteeism and/or tardiness, or ongoing poor attitude, will affect participation and acceptance in future shows. Exhibiting at SCAA Gallery is a privilege available to SCAA members. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Submission Criteria
Artwork shown at SCAA Gallery in the last 2 years will not be considered. All artwork must be for sale. Entries must be original and of the artist’s own execution and must not violate any copyright laws. Work created and/or completed in a class environment or under direct supervision of an instructor is not eligible. Work that is determined controversial or divisive by the Art Selection Committee, including sexualized or pornographic nudity, strong language, and obviously prejudiced religious/political themes, will not be considered. No AI.
Once artwork is submitted, it may not be altered, substituted, or withdrawn by the artist. Artwork that arrives in an altered state or that does not match the submitted photo may be refused. All artwork is expected to remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit and cannot be removed earlier than the posted pickup date. Early removal or last minute withdrawals from the exhibit may affect future acceptance and participation in exhibits..

Digital Image & File Requirements
High resolution digital images in JPG format (1-5 MB or 300 DPI) are required for consideration. Artwork should be well lit and centered. Images should be cropped so that NO BACKGROUNDS, MATS, OR FRAMES are included in the submitted image. For sculpture or special artwork wherein cropping is not possible, a neutral background is required. The image must accurately represent the artwork, including colors. Image quality is crucial. These images will help determine acceptance and, if accepted, may be used for promotion. Poor images may affect acceptance outcome and whether artwork is promoted in press releases, on promo materials, or on social media. Files should be renamed before submission, in the following format: FirstName_LastName_Title

Hosting Requirements
[email protected] SCAA Gallery | Call to Artists c2026
SCAA Gallery is a non-profit and purely volunteer-run. Exhibitors are expected to be willing participants to help keep the gallery open, clean, and operating. This includes hosting up to four (4) gallery shifts during the show duration. All attempts are made to minimize the number of shifts required. On average, artists work 3-4 shifts per show. This number of shifts is based on the final number of participants. Additional shifts or shift adjustments may be needed and will be at the discretion of the Gallery Chair(s) with ample notice..

Entry Fee
$20 for up to four (4) artwork submissions. This non-refundable fee is due to SCAA Gallery upon acceptance during the scheduled art drop-off date. NOTE: This is a $5 increase from 2025, beginning 2026.

Sales & Commissions
SCAA retains 25% commission on all sales conducted during the show and on any sales conducted as a direct result of the show, for up to 30 days. Artists are required to report any outside or online sales to the Gallery Chair and pay the commission rate back to SCAA in good faith, to remain in good standing at the gallery.

Guidelines
SCAA Gallery strives to showcase local artists in all stages of their artistic journey and offers a professional space for its members to display original fine art for sale within the Santa Clarita Valley. Work on display, including fine art gifts and prints, should be within the realm of fine art and presented professionally. There are instances when artisan work, such as sculptural pottery, woodwork, jewelry, and blown glass may be accepted, wherein pieces evoke emotion, leading with form and aesthetics over pure function. Gallery Guidelines have been created for best practices related to all mediums to communicate expectations and to foster consistency based on proven experience and common standards within the industry, not only for exhibitors but for collectors who expect a pleasant experience and a worthwhile investment.
For complete guidelines, art/host requirements, and show entry, visit: santaclaritaartists.org/gallery-guidelines

By submitting to this call, artists agree they have read, understand, and will abide by all eligibility, requirements,
guidelines, fees, and commissions included within this call and online at santaclaritaartists.org.

SCAA exhibits are open to the public and follow basic community standards of respect, unity, and an inclusive environment for all ages. Work that is controversial or divisive, including sexualized or pornographic nudity, strong language, and prejudiced religious/political themes, will not be considered. All work should be original and void of copyright and trademark infringement. No AI is permitted. By participating, artists agree that they are the original creator, own all rights to submitted materials, and allow SCAA the right to use artwork for public promotion. Acceptance and artwork placement within the gallery is at the discretion of the Gallery Chair(s) and/or Gallery Committee. All decisions are final.
