SCAA Member Art Show Call to Artists Go Figure May 1 -May 31, 2026
SHOW PROSPECTUS
Unlock the line, structure, emotion, and complexity of the human form through figurative art. SCAA Gallery invites its members to explore and convey realities of the human condition, offering viewers diverse perspectives on anatomy, narrative, and shared experiences—realistically or abstractly. Old Town Newhall also welcomes back their annual OTN Art Walk on May 16, during this exhibit. About Go Figure: Work for this exhibit must focus on the human body and form. While other elements may be included, the primary focus must remain on the human subject rather than secondary or complementary imagery. As this is a figurative exhibition, works should emphasize the human figure; submissions consisting solely of portraiture (the head only) are discouraged. All 2D and 3D fine art mediums are welcome; however, video and AI are not permitted. To be considered, work must not have been shown at SCAA Gallery within the last two years. Due to the theme of this exhibit, tasteful nudity is acceptable, but sexualized or pornographic works will not be considered. Decisions made by the Selection Committee are final.
Artist Tip: We are looking to explore the full story of the human condition. To differentiate your work from a standard portrait, consider focusing on gesture, movement, anatomical detail, or the silhouette of the body. We encourage submissions that celebrate the complexity of the human figure beyond just the face. Important Dates Exhibit Dates: May 1 - May 31 (closed Mother’s Day) Reception: Saturday, May 2, 5-8 pm Submission Deadline: Sunday, April 12 Notification: Tuesday, April 14 Artwork Drop Off: Tuesday, April 28, 3-6 pm Artwork Pickup: Tuesday, June 2, 3-6 pm* *SCAA is not responsible for artwork left at the gallery after the scheduled pickup date/time.
Eligibility Open to current SCAA members 16 years and older; non-members may JOIN to become eligible. Exhibitors must be available to host the required gallery shifts for the duration of the show. Returning exhibitors must be in good standing with the Gallery Committee. This includes a history of reliable volunteering, fulfilling host requirements (including finding your own coverage), and maintaining a positive, professional attitude toward fellow artists, guests, and committee members. Failure to follow guidelines—such as consistent absenteeism, tardiness, arriving with unsecured artwork, or a poor attitude—will affect acceptance into future shows. Exhibiting at SCAA Gallery is a privilege for our members, and acceptance is not guaranteed.
Submission Criteria All artwork must be for sale. Artwork shown at SCAA Gallery within the past 2 years will not be considered. All entries must be original, created solely by the artist, and must not violate copyright laws. Work produced in a class environment or under the direct supervision of an instructor is ineligible. The Art Selection Committee reserves the right to exclude work deemed controversial or divisive, including sexualized or pornographic nudity, strong language, or prejudiced religious/political themes. AI-generated work is not permitted. Once submitted, artwork may not be altered, substituted, or withdrawn. Pieces that arrive in an altered state or do not match the submission photo may be refused. All work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit and cannot be removed before the posted pickup date. Early removal or last-minute withdrawals may affect eligibility for future shows.
Image & File Requirements High-resolution digital images in JPG format (1-5 MB or 300 DPI) are required for consideration. Photos must be well-lit, centered, and accurately represent the artwork’s colors. Cropping: Images should be cropped so that no backgrounds, mats, or frames are visible. For sculptures or 3D work where this is not possible, a neutral background is required. Please refrain from adding props or plants. Quality & Promotion: Image quality is crucial, as these files are used both for jurying and for promotion. Poor-quality images may negatively affect acceptance and will not be featured in press releases, promotional materials, or on social media. Naming Format: Files must be renamed before submission using the following format: FirstName_LastName_Title
Hosting Requirements As a non-profit, volunteer-run space, SCAA Gallery relies on its exhibitors to keep the gallery open, clean, and operating. All participants are expected to host up to four (4) gallery shifts during the exhibition. While we make every effort to minimize the time required, artists typically work 3—4 shifts depending on the final number of participants and show duration. Please note that additional shifts or adjustments may be requested at the discretion of the Gallery Chair, with ample notice provided . Entry Fees A non-refundable fee of $20 covers up to four (4) artwork submissions. This fee is due to SCAA Gallery at the scheduled art drop-off date. Payment methods: We accept cash, checks (made payable to SCAA), or credit/debit. Note: Effective 2026, entry fees have increased by $5 from previous years.
Sales & Commissions SCAA retains 25% commission on all sales made during the show, as well as on any sales resulting directly from the exhibit for up to 30 days post-show. To remain in good standing, artists are required to report any such outside or online sales to the Gallery Chair and remit the commission to SCAA in good faith. Payouts: The SCAA Treasurer will process and issue artist payouts within 30 days of the show’s closing.
Gallery Guidelines SCAA Gallery is dedicated to showcasing local artists at every stage of their journey, providing a professional venue to exhibit and sell original fine art within the Santa Clarita Valley. All work on display, including fine art gifts and prints, must be presented professionally and remain within the realm of fine art. Artisan & Functional Work: While the focus is on fine art, artisan pieces such as sculptural pottery, woodwork, jewelry, and blown glass may be accepted if they evoke emotion and prioritize form and aesthetics over pure function. Hanging Requirements: All wall art must be compatible with our hanging system, requiring proper wiring to safely fit our hooks. Sawtooth hangers, cleats, Velcro, and Command strips are not permitted. No adjustments will be made to the gallery walls to accommodate non-conforming hardware. Please contact us prior to submission with any technical questions. These guidelines ensure “best practices” across all mediums, fostering consistency and a high standard of excellence for both our exhibitors and our collectors. For complete guidelines and requirements, please visit: santaclaritaartists.org/gallery-guidelines Agreement: By submitting to this call, artists certify that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by all eligibility rules, requirements, guidelines, fees, and commission policies included within this call and online at santaclaritaartists.org.
Exhibition Standards & Rights: SCAA exhibits are open to the public and adhere to community standards of respect, unity, and inclusivity for all ages. Work deemed controversial or divisive--including sexualized or pornographic nudity, strong language, or prejudiced religious and political themes--will not be considered. Originality & AI: All submissions must be original, free of copyright or trademark infringement, and created without the use of AI. By participating, artists certify they are the sole creator and owner of all submitted work. Gallery Authority: SCAA reserves the right to use submitted images for public promotion. Final acceptance and the placement of artwork within the gallery are at the sole discretion of the Gallery Chair and Committee. All decisions are final.
