Ryan AppelbaumSCAA Member Portfolio Showcase
About the Artist:
Ryan has an interest in various forms of art, typically creating with whichever mediums call to him for each art piece, working both traditionally and digitally. He received an Associate’s in Art at College of the Canyons, then transferred and received a Bachelor’s studying psychology at UCLA. Here, he continued to take creative classes alongside classes for his degree, like ones focusing on the art of creating comics. In his teens, he had the opportunity to work on storyboarding with director Nicole Rubio for Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, from 2017 to 2018. From 2020 to 2025, he worked as an illustrator for the organization Partnerships for Listening and Action by Communities and Educators (PLACE) through COC, until the organization no longer continued at the community college. He developed their mascot characters, then would create illustrations and comics to provide information and thematic messages revolving around the concept of community and caring for those around you, as well as creating projects such as coloring books. In addition to these mascot characters, he likes to create other characters outside of PLACE as well—developing their designs, personalities, and relationships with one another. |
