About the Artist:
My art focuses on several themes: ancient archeological finds from matriarchal, non-violent societies; psychological underpinnings of strength and fragility; the wisdom of children; our place in the universe; and the innate power of women. To me, fragility is strength. Hence, female figures made from resin and crushed glass symbolize the strength in fragility, or the power that comes from looking into, confronting and accepting all aspects of one's self and others. I believe in the power of empathy to change the world to a better place. I’ve studied matriarchies past and present as well as neuropsychological research on female versus male brains in terms of problem solving skills and empathic pathways. It is a given that women have more empathy than men and that this empathy fuels both their problem-solving skills and relationship skills. Rather than put women down for "feeling too much" it is time for women to gain positions of power so that their empathy for the possible outcomes of decisions can be incorporated into the way the world works. No woman is going to bomb a city when the likelihood of killing children is even remotely possible. They will use their empathy to reorganize, restructure and rejuvenate the world. |
