When you choose to join our community and display your work, you are entering into a collective community agreement to hang your art well as a direct act of stewardship to this 37–year history. Our gallery functions as a warm, welcoming, and accessible local environment where the guest and collector experience is our primary focus. When we present our work with flawless, professional detail, we honor our patrons, elevate our unique marketplace, and drive the fine art sales that fund our association’s future. The technical specifications, wire safety protocols, and framing mandates detailed below were developed specifically to preserve the care and respect of our exhibition walls safely and aesthetically. Review these expectations with pride, align yourself with our shared standards, and join us in keeping our creative home thriving, respected, and pristine. 2026 SCAA Gallery Guidelines & StandardsArtist Eligibility & Good Standing
Exhibiting at SCAA Gallery is open to current, paid SCAA members aged 16 years and older who are capable of fulfilling gallery hosting duties and shared community responsibilities. Non-members are invited to JOIN SCAA to become eligible. To maintain exhibitor status, returning artists must remain in strict "Good Standing" with the Gallery Committee. This requires a proven history of reliable volunteerism, consistent fulfillment of host requirements, proactively securing emergency shift coverage when needed, and maintaining a positive, professional attitude toward fellow creators, gallery guests, and committee members. Failure to comply—including continuous absenteeism, shift tardiness, arriving with unprepared artwork, or exhibiting a disruptive attitude—will result in lost exhibition opportunities and affect acceptance into future gallery shows. Ultimately, displaying your work inside our honored space is a distinct privilege reserved for our active, supportive members and entry acceptance is not guaranteed. Artwork Criteria & Acceptance Standards
All work on display inside the gallery—including main wall entries, fine art gifts, and printed reproductions—must be presented with absolute professionalism and remain strictly within the realm of original fine art. While our primary focus is on two- and three-dimensional fine art mediums, select artisan and functional pieces may be accepted at the discretion of the committee. Eligible artisan work includes sculptural pottery, hand-turned woodwork, fine jewelry, and blown glass. To maintain the artistic integrity of our exhibition space, these pieces must prioritize aesthetic form, original design, and emotional evocative power over pure utility or commercial crafting. Artwork Authenticity & Subject Restrictions
All artwork on display inside the gallery must be completely original, created solely by the exhibiting artist, and priced for public sale. To keep our exhibitions fresh and engaging, any piece accepted into an SCAA Gallery Member Group Show within the past two (2) calendar years is strictly ineligible for submission. All entries must fully comply with copyright laws; work produced inside a classroom environment, under the direct supervision of an instructor, or utilizing AI-generation engines is strictly prohibited. SCAA Gallery supports artistic expression but operates as a warm, family-friendly civic space. To preserve a welcoming environment for all guests, the Art Selection Committee reserves the authority to exclude any submission deemed controversial, divisive, or inappropriate for public display, including explicit or sexualized nudity, offensive language, or highly prejudiced religious and political themes. Fine Art Gift Boutique Standards
To support our creators and offer accessible entry points for new collectors, the gallery hosts a curated Fine Art Gift Boutique alongside our main exhibition walls. All boutique submissions—including greeting cards, bookmark sets, sticker packs, magnets, and hand-painted canvas pouches—must feature the artist’s own original fine art imagery and be presented in pristine, retail-ready gallery packaging within uniform, provided SCAA Gallery containers. To preserve our high-end aesthetic, the boutique is strictly limited to premium, paper-based art reproductions and hand-embellished accessories. Mass-produced, commercial promotional merchandise—including but not limited to sublimation-printed travel mugs, t-shirts, phone cases, and un-curated novelty items—is strictly prohibited. All boutique items remain subject to jury approval, and the Gallery Committee reserves absolute authority to reject any submission that does not align with the artistic integrity of the current exhibition. Gallery Rights & Curation Authority
By submitting your work to an SCAA exhibition, the artist grants the association absolute, royalty-free permission to utilize digital images of their artwork for public promotion, localized press releases, social media marketing, and archival documentation. To ensure a cohesive, professional aesthetic across the gallery, the final layout, wall placement, and curation of all accepted works are at the sole discretion of the Gallery Chair and Installation Committee. All curation and placement decisions are final, and members are respectfully reminded that maintaining a supportive, professional attitude toward our volunteer curators is a core requirement of our shared community agreement. Promotional Image Standards
To fuel our localized press releases, social media marketing campaigns, and digital features inside SCAA News, artists are highly encouraged to upload professional, well-lit, and accurately cropped digital representations of their work during the submission process. Digital image quality directly dictates public visibility: while acceptable baseline files are utilized for show acceptance, only high-resolution, perfectly lit, and professionally cropped artwork will be selected for feature spotlights in our promotional media, newspaper press kits, or print postcards. The Gallery Committee reserves absolute authority to omit poor-quality photography from public marketing streams to preserve the visual integrity of our association's brand and public image. Universal Presentation & Artwork Standards
All artwork displayed at SCAA Gallery must arrive at the intake desk in flawless physical condition. Frames must be high-quality, structurally sound, and completely free of chips, scratches, or dents; all display mats must be spotless and free of scuffs, tears, or debris. For physical safety and wall preservation, all wall-mounted works must be securely wired using professional D-rings and braided picture wire rated for the appropriate weight and dimensions of the finished piece. Sawtooth picture hangers, French cleats, Velcro, hanging clips, adhesive tape, and Command strips are strictly prohibited, and no modifications will be made to the permanent gallery walls to accommodate non-conforming hardware. Any entry that arrives in an altered state, fails to match its digital submission image, or features unsafe hanging apparatuses will be refused on the spot regardless of its prior acceptance. While unique substrates or unconventional artwork shapes will be evaluated individually, the association retains absolute authority to reject any asset that compromises the physical safety or visual integrity of our exhibition space. Gallery Intake Fees
To support the operational maintenance, marketing, and physical hosting of our gallery shows, a standard, non-refundable Gallery Intake Fee of $20.00 is required for each exhibition run. This flat fee covers up to four (4) artwork submissions per artist. Fees are due in full at the time of your scheduled artwork drop-off date. We securely accept cash, major credit and debit cards, or personal checks made payable to SCAA. Exhibition Commissions & Artist Payouts
To directly fund gallery maintenance and SCAA programming, all fine art sales processed via our point-of-sales systems are subject to a standard 25% gallery commission. This commission applies to all on-site transactions, as well as any external or online sales resulting directly from the exhibition for up to thirty (30) days post-show. To maintain active exhibitor status and good standing, artists are required to report any such trailing sales to the Gallery Chair and remit the 25% commission to SCAA in good faith. Following the formal conclusion of the exhibition, the Gallery Chair will generate and email a private, itemized sales report to each exhibiting artist detailing their specific gross sales and commission allocations. This ensures a transparent, secure window for artists to audit and confirm their figures before any payouts are assigned. Once verified, the SCAA Treasurer processes and issues all final artist payouts within 30 days of the show's closing via secure ACH Direct Deposit electronic payments or via physical check mailed to the address on the membership account (default). Once an artwork submission is formally finalized, it enters into an ironclad inventory lock and may not be altered, substituted, or withdrawn by the artist. Pieces that arrive at the intake desk in an altered state, or fail to match the digital submission photo uploaded during registration, will be refused. To honor our gallery patrons and preserve the curation layout, all accepted works must remain on physical display for the duration of the exhibition. Artworks cannot be removed under any circumstances prior to the posted pickup date. Any last-minute withdrawals or early removals shatter our community agreement and will directly result in the loss of exhibition opportunities for future gallery shows. Gallery Hosting & Volunteer Commitments
As a non-profit, volunteer-led cooperative community, the SCAA Gallery relies entirely on the shared labor and dedication of its exhibiting artists to keep our showroom open, immaculate, and operating professionally. To maintain our public-facing calendar, all selected participants are required to host up to four (4) gallery shifts throughout the duration of the exhibition cycle. While the Gallery Committee makes every administrative effort to minimize volunteer friction, artists typically fulfill 3 to 4 shifts depending on the final size of the exhibitor roster and the specific length of the show. To protect our operational hours and handle emergency schedule changes, the Gallery Chair reserves the right to request additional shift coverage or execute calendar adjustments, with ample notice provided to our creators. |
