SCAA Gallery is honored to partner with SCAA Member and Gallery Curator Laura Ledesma to offer this unique exploration of art journaling. An art journal is a private sanctuary – a safe, supportive space to express your inner thoughts, experiment with new ideas, and relieve day-to-day stress by breaking completely free from traditional constraints.

In this intimate, small-group setting, you will work up-close alongside a like-minded community to cultivate creative openness and learn to create with complete abandonment.

The Art Journal Lab
​In This 3-Hour Session, You Will Learn:

• To silence your inner critic and embrace a mindset of pure, uninhibited visual play.
• How to layer papers, fibers, and personal embellishments to communicate complex ideas and moods.
• To master creative cutting techniques, texturing, and page assembly using professional studio tools.
• How to maintain your journal over time as an active catalyst for raw, daily inspiration.​

We will work on 2 pages together in your new journal, exploring design, composition, concepts, and free-play.

What's Included:

Everything you need to confidently begin your art journal adventure is provided! Laura has generously included all baseline working materials to help you explore and compile your creative ideas:​

• One (1) 8.5”x 5.5” Mixed Media Journal to keep
• Shared access to acrylic paints, fluid markers, brushes, stencils, stamps, and inks
• A rich assortment of collage papers, adhesives, and mixed embellishments
• In-Class Tools to Use: Scissors, rulers, X-Acto knives, and protective cutting mats

You are also welcome to bring your own journal, special papers, or embellishments to enjoy in the process!

Meet Your Instructor:
​Laura Ledesma

Laura Ledesma is a Mexican-born, self-taught artist who has called Santa Clarita home for the last 33 years. In 1997 she became a full-time artist, painting murals for the next eighteen years. During this time, she also taught art for seven years through the Saugus School District. She has also been teaching privately on and off until now. And for the last three years, she has volunteered her time teaching an art class to young adults with special needs at Agape Village, a non-profit organization, in addition to volunteering as Curator at SCAA Gallery.

Laura has exhibited in several galleries here in California, and has participated in art competitions and art festivals, gaining acclaim as the chosen poster artist for the 2025 Cowboy Festival.

As a multi-media, award-winner, and avid art journal creative, she works on a wide range of content. She is captivated by faces and animals, as well as the beauty of nature, often including these three subjects in her pieces. She values the freedom to create with abandonment, combining reality with a touch of fantasy.​
