I am a native
Californian: born in Los Angeles and raised in Bakersfield. My art background is very informal. I took some classes in college
but didn’t do anything further until I took a collage workshop in
the Avon, Connecticut art center. I dabbled off and on in art while
working in finance and raising two children.
Two years ago my husband, Dale, who is a metal sculptor, and I
joined the Santa Clarita Artists Association and met many kindred
souls. Then a workshop found me. A collage artist, Lynn Kishiyama of
Paso Robles, opened the door. After two workshops at her studio, I
found my artistic voice: abstract collage.
My favorite materials are acrylics, Japanese papers, clipped art,
wood, and copper. I enjoy using color and form to create a pleasant
combination. Also, Japanese, Chinese and Korean art pleases my eye
and I often include a reference to them in my pieces.
In addition to art, I have also served as a Volunteer for six years
at the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry. It is very rewarding to
help the many families in need.
I was recently asked to be a member of the Public Art Sub-committee
for the City of Santa Clarita Commission of the Arts. The group will
be formulating the role of public art and looking for display
locations for our city. |
The collages below are all acrylic on
canvas board with paper and colored pencil.
All these pieces are 18" x 22". |
