January 18 Karl Dempwolf, Plein Air Artist continued his art education by attending Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California, getting his Masters degree in 1974. Also in 1974 he won the coveted CINE Golden Eagle award for his film, "The Story of a Craftsman". The same film also won the Silver CINDY award and Best of Show at the Bellevue International Film Festival in Washington. His film career ended when painting became his passion. Wendt , Rose ,Puthuff Payne and Ritschel became his artistic icons. Dempwolf's work can be found in publications from North Light Books, entitled Art from the Parks. His paintings are in the permanent collections of large corporations, among them McGraw-Hill Publishers, and the National Park Foundation. February 15 Carolyn Counnas will be demonstrating "The 7 Principles of Creating Depth In Your Paintings."The demo piece will be raffled off at the end of the evening.
Carolyn found her artistic inspiration from trekking around the world. Having lived in India, Africa, Japan and Europe, various ethnic influences are evident in her early work, which captures the feeling, energy and emotion of a place rather than a particular subject.
Now settled in Thousand Oaks, CA - with its Mediterranean climate, Carolyn finds enormous inspiration from her natural surroundings. Here the seasonal changes are more subtle than in her native Maryland, but the varied and vivid color palette works its magic.
Currently color is Carolyn's primary spark, more so than form or subject matter. You might say that subject matter is an excuse to use color. Her current oil paintings feature lots of warm reds. Using a method called color orchestration, she combines many variations of a single color to create rich, luminous effects. Grasses -- their form and ever changing essence -- are also reflected in her current work.
March 15 Aaron Westerberg, contemporary realist and portrait artist. He will be showing his figurative drawing and painting techniques.

Westerberg was born in San Diego and raised in the rural, mountainous Ramona, one of San Diego County’s oldest communities. As a child he was inspired by the area’s picturesque surroundings, which included intriguing boulder formations.

He took life drawing and illustration at a community college in nearby San Marcos, then traditional life-drawing at the California Art Institute in Westlake Village, where he studied nineteenth century American and European artists. He found particular inspiration in the paintings of Edmund Tarbell (1862-1928), John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) and Anders Zorn (1860-1920), three artists whose sense of form, color and light, intrigued Westerberg.

Westerberg’s drive for advancing his painting skills ultimately led him to teach. From 2000 to 2005 he taught at the California Art Institute. Since 2005 he has become a popular faculty member at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art where he teaches drawing and painting. His work received attention in several national publications, including the cover of Strokes of Genius: The Best of Drawing and in 2002 Westerberg was listed in Southwest Art’s annual roster of “Twenty-One under Thirty-One.” In 2007 he was given a feature story in American Art Collector magazine, as well as being named one of the best 24 artists under 40 by Artist Magazine.

Aaron Westerberg is a member of the California Art Club, Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America. In addition, he has a very impressive record of exhibitions and gallery appearances across the US.

Trentham is currently teaching pastels at Emeritus College in Santa Monica and painting the Malibu Coast and the Santa Monica Mountains. August 16 John Storojev is fascinated by the challenges of working in metal, Ever curious to experiment, Storojev employs electric lights, crystals, and water in his water fountains which gives them a uniqueness that has resulted in several commissions. Another favorite medium is stone which he finds perfect in reflecting his fascination with the human form. Storojev also likes to get his hands in clay to mold the likeness of a face, a figure or anything else that fascinates him.

Storojev divides his time between his studio and teaching sculpture at California Lutheran University where he has been on the faculty for the past several years. He especially enjoys working with students to bring out their innate creative talents. He also conducts private and group sculpture classes in the area.

He exhibits regularly at various local artistic shows in the Los Angles area. He has just completed a three-month exhibit as sole sculptor at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Storojev is associated with select, high-end designer firms.
