2011 COMMUNITY GARDEN SHED MURAL, Co-ordinated by Laurie Finkelstein
Artists from the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association and the ARTree Community Arts Center joined forces to create a dynamic mural for the Community Gardens of Santa Clarita located in Central Park on Bouquet Canyon Rd. The mural, painted on the storage shed, depicts fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The mural was designed by Alma Juarez, Art Director and Project Lead, and a member of ARTree.

Laurie Finkelstein, SCAA member and Project Coordinator, scheduled the volunteers for the project and was liaison to all three organizations. Volunteers from both SCAA and ARTree were instrumental in the painting of the mural and included, Cheri Marcovitch, Patty O’Hearn, Sue Prout, Lorlinda Osborne, Idelle and Erin Tyzbir, Emma Barnett, Nicole Meyer and her entourage from Starbucks.

2009 CANVAS OF THE SQUARES,
Co-ordinated by Jaylene Armstrong

The 4' x 4' canvas, with 144 blank 4" x 4" squares, was displayed at the SCAA's 2009 Art Classic so that guests and members could complete a square with their own design.
This was an "Interactive Project" that was completed with the help of many SCAA members. Barbara Ralsten got the canvas, and Bob Hernandez drew all of the line squares. Cheri and Howard Marcovitch delivered the canvas to several different locations so that SCAA members could design a square and help finish the project. The canvas will be donated to the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Santa Clarita, CA.

PAINTING PARTY - June 21, 2008

Many members of the SCAA contributed to making the Lilly oncology painting and creativity party successful.
On Saturday June 21st a group of SCAA artists, which included Romeo Downer, Sandy Fisher, Judith Haims, Olga Kaczmar, Yolanda Menchaca, Cheri Marcovitch, Peggy Patti, and Michael Powell helped to conduct a painting and creativity party in partnership with Lilly Oncology, Providence Holy Cross and WeSpark for cancer patients, their family, friends and caregivers. Participants were able to use collage, acrylics, watercolors or a combination to create works of art to express the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journey meaning. The created artworks will be entered into the 3rd biennial art competition called “Oncology on Canvas” sponsored by Lilly Oncology. For many of the participants it was their first encounter with paints or collage, but all of them had nothing but praise for the experience and the opportunity.

In 2006 the Santa Clarita Artists' Association was awarded a grant from the city of Santa Clarita to conduct After-School Art Enrichment Classes.   Instructor/Coordinator was Jaylene Armstrong, Assistant Instructor: Sandy Fisher.  The lessons were thoroughly enjoyed by the children and on December 15, 2006 there was a festive closing reception with all the children's art displayed.  Each child was presented with a congratulatory completion certificate and a gift box of art supplies. Following are some photos of the classes, the artwork, and the reception.
